Migraine and Menopause
Q: What's the relationship between migraine and menopause?
Dr. Donnica: In general, migraines resolve after menopause. Although some patients have continued migraines if they are on HRT, in general, HRT does not affect true migraines, although it can increase the incidence of other types of headaches. For a menopausal woman, other causes of headache such as stroke, aneurysm or brain pathology are of greater concern, so anyone in this stage of life who has the worst headache of her life, which doesn't resolve with standard therapy, should contact her physician immediately.
