Wear Jeans To Work Tomorrow!
Join me and nearly 1 million other Americans in wearing jeans to work tomorrow,
regardless of the type of work that you do. Why? Tomorrow, Friday October
10 2003, is Lee National Denim Day to support breast cancer awareness. If your
employer is a participant, you can wear jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation
to support the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen.org). More than 1
million Americans are expected to participate in this national fundraiser.
Why is it important to support breast cancer awareness and research? Awareness
reminds us of the 41,000 women who die each year of breast cancer in the United
States alone. Awareness reminds us to focus on our own breast health. Awareness
reminds us to ask our loved ones if they've had their mammograms this year.
Awareness reminds us that increased attention to and funding for breast cancer
research programs will help us develop new strategies for diagnosis and treatments
for a cure. Research funding is now focused on new diagnostics, new treatments
and even possible ways to prevent breast cancer in the future. Research is
focused on ways to improve the quality of life for women going through treatment
for breast cancer. And research is focused on ways breast cancer survivors
can return to an optimum quality of life after their treatment.
