Dr. Donnica Partners with L'EGGS SHEER ENERGY® on Leg Health
Awareness for Women
Winston-Salem, N.C. (October 12, 2005): L'eggs Sheer Energy®,
a leading hosiery brand, today announced it is designating October as National
Leg Health Month in an effort to encourage women nationwide to become more aware
about leg wellness. National Leg Health Month includes the numerous leg health
awareness and educational initiatives in partnership with women's health expert
and advocate Dr. Donnica L. Moore.
"Leg health is something women take for granted," said Dr. Donnica. "Ironically,
most women are more concerned about having better looking legs than having healthier
legs. In fact, women need to know that strong, healthy legs will always be more
glamorous," she added. "The idea of National Leg Health Month came about
when we recently commissioned a national poll of 550 women 18 and over and found
out that nearly one half were missing out on outings or skipping activities to
rest their legs. It's unfortunate," says Trish Stephens, brand director of L'eggs
Sheer Energy®. The survey also revealed that 64 percent of women complained
of some type of leg ailment at the end of the day. The most common leg complaint
was aches and pain (46 percent) while fatigue (33 percent), swelling (25 percent)
and cramping (21 percent) where also popular gripes. "I want women to learn
to listen to their legs," advises Dr. Donnica. "If this many women are having
leg symptoms, they need to know what corrective steps to take and when to consult
their physicians." Dr. Donnica's "Top Tips on Leg Health" are available by clicking
here throughout the month of October. Women can also view a live television
interview with Dr. Donnica discussing the importance of leg health. Dr. Donnica's
tips are also available at www.DrDonnica.com. Dr. Donnica's leg health
advice includes wearing comfortable, supportive shoes; getting regular exercise;
maintaining a healthy weight; and not smoking. "It's great news that most steps
women take towards improving their general health, will also improve their leg
health." In addition, Dr. Donnica recommends that travelers take short walking
breaks during long plane trips to avoid the onset of "economy class syndrome,"
or deep venous thrombosis (blood clots). "The survey also revealed that 63 percent
of women 18 to 24 think that taking long, hot baths will result in healthier legs,"
says Dr. Donnica. "In reality, hot baths may be detrimental because prolonged
heat can dilate blood vessels, which decreases blood flow return to the heart
and contributes to bad circulation and varicose vein formation." Stephens added
that "This initiative will educate women on basic leg health issues. We also hope
they will try our hosiery and experience the benefit L'eggs Sheer Energy® can
make on the look and feel of their legs." In a clinical study on the effects of
wearing support hosiery such as L'eggs Sheer Energy® on arterial and venous
circulation in the lower extremities, support hosiery was found to increase blood
flow to the legs during exercise and provide better external support for legs
during rest. Increased blood flow, which provides more oxygen to the legs, can
eliminate leg fatigue because there is a direct link between more oxygenation
and reduced leg pain and discomfort.
