(October 20, 2004, Somerville, NJ) - The Women's Health & Counseling Center
(WHCC) of Somerville will honor Judy C. Lewent, Executive Vice President, Chief
Financial Officer and President, Human Health Asia of Merck & Co., Inc. at its
annual Imperial Ball to be held on Saturday, November 20. Dr. Donnica Moore,
the WHCC's honoree for 2002, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the
event and will present the award to Ms. Lewent. The Imperial Ball serves as
WHCC's largest fundraising event, raising more than $100,000 each year.
A native of New York, Lewent serves as Executive Vice
President, Chief Financial Officer and President, Human Health Asia of Merck
& Co., Inc. In this role, she is responsible for worldwide finance, corporate
development and corporate licensing matters, as well as the Merck human health
business in Asia and for many of Merck's current joint venture relationships.
Lewent joined Merck in 1980 and has held positions
of increasing responsibility. She is a member of Merck's Management Committee,
a senior management group which makes strategic decisions for the company.
She holds an M.S. in Management from MIT's Sloan School of Management and a
B.S. in Economics from Goucher College.
Lewent is a member of the Board of Directors of Dell
Inc., Motorola, The National Bureau of Economic Research, and Penn Medicine
(University of Pennsylvania Health System); a trustee of the Rockefeller Family
Trust; a life member of the MIT Corporation; and a member of the American Academy
of Arts & Sciences.
The 4th Annual Imperial Ball will feature
music by the Peter Duchin Orchestra, gourmet food, and themed décor as well
as both a silent auction and a live auction.
Women's Health and Counseling Center is a non-profit,
community-based health center that provides comprehensive health care for women
who have experienced difficulty obtaining medical care from traditional sources
due to monetary, cultural, language or other barriers.
