Graves' Disease Resources

Q: I just returned from a trip to my home country, where I was diagnosed as having Graves' Disease. In the USA my thyroid was first considered hypo and later hyper, and as time went by, I noticed that my right eye looks bigger and a little popped out; this is the reason why my doctor asked for a specific test for Graves' disease.

I live in Greensboro, NC, and I'd like to know if is there a specialist in this field that I can contact.

Thank you!

--S.C.

Dr. Donnica:You can go to the website for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and type in your state, town and zip code and get a referral to one of their members. Another suggestion is to go to the Doctor Finder on the American Medical Association website where you can also search for an endocrinologist in your area.

The National Graves' Disease Foundation is a great source of information. The web site has bulletin boards and listings of local support groups.
