Occasionally Absent Period

Q: I have a little problem. I am 23 and for the past 3 months I have not had my period. I am not pregnant either. Is this normal? Please help me- I'm really worried!

Dr. Donnica:
This is a very common problem called "oligomenorrhea." If you're sure you're not pregnant, don't panic!  You should see your gynecologist and have an evaluation.  For most women, this is nothing serious and for women who do not care to become pregnant now, the "treatment" is usually birth control pills.
