Paying For Fibroid Surgery
Q: I realize this is an unconventional email. Do you know where
I can have my fibroid removed free or for a nominal charge? Perhaps I
can do something in exchange. Make a commercial, write a book, be a guinea
pig on a video -- I have many talents, but only state insurance and no
decent doctor seems to want to accept it. I have researched every method
and have decided on a myomectomy with the bikini incision. I found a great
doctor, but the surgery is over 22 grand. Thanks for any clue you can
provide,
Sincerely, L.N.
Dr. Donnica: Sorry I can't give you any specific advice, but you
might try going to the nearest teaching hospital -- one affiliated with a major
university. They usually have clinics that accept state insurance and the OB-Gyn
residents would operate on you under the supervision of their attending physicians.
Just find the nearest teaching hospital, ask for the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Department and explain your needs to the receptionist who answers. Yes, I myself
have done this for major surgery. You're not a guinea pig under those conditions,
in fact, you often get better care.
With best regards and hopes for a good outcome,
