Premarin (conjugated estrogen)

Q: I have been on Premarin (conjugated estrogen) for ten years and would now like to stop taking it. Is this a good idea? Would sure like an answer. Thank you!

-- M.H.

Dr. Donnica:
This is a question that should be addressed by your physician. Only your doctor can give you the best advice about what's right for you. While there has been a lot of news lately about the risks of HRT increasing slightly after 10 years, in general, I don't recommend that women who have benefited from estrogen stop taking it just because they're hit their 10th anniversary if nothing else has changed. Good luck--
