Q: How common is premature ovarian failure?
Dr. Donnica: Premature ovarian failure (POF) is also known as premature menopause:  it is defined as menopause for any reason before age 40.  This condition affects affects approximately one in a hundred women under the age of 40 and one in a thousand women under the age of 30.
