Rita Moreno
As one of only 4 women to win all 4 major acting
awards (Oscar, Emmy, Tony, Grammy), Rita Moreno has quite a trophy collection.
While accepting her most recent award from the National Osteoporosis Foundation
for her work in raising awareness about this disease, she said that this
award was going right next to her Oscar because her health achievements
mean as much to her as her passion for acting. Here she is with Dr. Donnica
after receiving her award from the National Osteoporosis Foundation in
October 2000.

The Importance of Osteoporosis Testing
Miss Moreno recently discussed osteoporosis as a guest on "Dr.
Donnica's Women's Health Report.
Rita Moreno: "It's very important that the women of this
country be made aware of the dangers of osteoporosis in the sense that it is
a silent and invisible disease with no symptoms whatsoever."
Miss Moreno admits that she thought she was protected from this condition
because of her years of dance and physical activity. She was not aware that
she had two of the most important risks: being female and being menopausal.
Fortunately, her doctor recommended a bone density test which picked up the
earliest signs of bone loss and she was able to take corrective action before
any damage was done.

Dr. Donnica and Dr. Clarita Herrera (past President of the American Medical
Women's Association) look on. |
Rita Moreno: "Bone density tests are the most important thing
for a woman who is reaching or into menopause. It's vitally important that
she get measured and find out what her bone health is about".
